You can relax at the fishpond freehouse, located nearby. Gulliver's kingdom that was 10 minutes walk away and other tourist spots were near to this place. Free parking was provided to the guests. We would book again, this hotel met required needs.

The roooms were comfortable and the lounge bar welcoming with a 'log' (gas) fire and soft sofas and chairs. The English Breakfast was plentiful with a good variety of choices. The alternative Continental breakfast was equally as varied. A good start to the day!!

The room was fine. The bed made for a comfortable night. Breakfast was fine. Thefirst night I had a rather late dinner and although the menu was down to a small choice the standard to which the chef made this food was really excellent! Taste was great and the way the food was arranged at the plate reminded me of all those cooking programs on telly. Chef stood the test with flying colours!
The building looks like an investment by a hotel group that wants to maximise profit from its asset in a limited number of years. Bathrooms nicely done up to latest design with limited funds and roof and guttering left to leak and cause considerable damage to the building in long term. It rained when I arrived and I met with Niagara Falls at the landing on the first floor. A washing tub and lots of towels were the answer where water came thropugh. I opened up the window in my room and the woodwork was completely rotten (but held double glazing!). Quick profit, no maintenance as is often the case. Staff from eastern Europe, friendly, speaking English very well.

A Mixed Experience with Charming Moments
We enjoyed our two-night stay, especially appreciating the lovely walks in Matlock Bath. The dinner selection was limited, but our meals were tasty. Consider requesting a room in the main building for a cozier vibe. Staff were helpful.

Location was ideal place for us to stay for meeting family at the Wirksworth Festival. We also liked that could leave the car and walk into Matlock Bath. The plunge pool was exhilarating and sauna even though small was enjoyed.
We felt it was in need of a refurbishment, lovely building.

The location is excellent. 5 min walk in to Matlock Bath. From there you can catch a train to matlock, only two min away. The Midland pub is excellent with a fantastic location right next to the river. Don't be missled in to thinking there are no seats left at the back! Go down to the next level there are another 8 ish benches as close to the river as you can get without getting wet!!!!! Will be going back to matlock bath again soon! Great place for a relaxing two night stay!
The hotel is, as per many reviews, starting to look a bit "tired". It is in need of full refurbishment. What a fantastic place it would then be! The Bees nest "inside the hotel!" was a bit of a suprise with dead bees all the way down the stairs! But to be fair the staff dealt with it immediately!! Took a while for the bodies to cleared though!

Our trip to this hotel turned out to be fairly disasterous. The room had not been properly prepared and we had to wait almost two hours before a key could be found for the door leading out onto the balcony which was unlocked so the room was not secure.. Discarded food had been also been left in the room. The service was fairly poor and the dining room menu limited to three choices. On our return after our first full day out walking we noticed the door to the balcony had been left unlocked. When we queried this with the receptionist she said she could not image why the door had been opened in the first place. The following morning we discovered why; the contents from the waste bin had been emptied over the balcony onto the ground below. We did complain about the service and the charge for the accommodation was reduced; but the final straw was when we went to pay the bill; we were told that payment had not been taken when we booked over the internet and that we were required to pay. When I got home and checked my credit card bill I found that I had indeed paid. I was promised three time during several subsequent telephone conversations that my credit card had been credited, which turned out to be blatant lies. Finaly I did manage to talk to someone else who did arrang the proper credit.
